Quickie Updates
1. Bill O'Reilly did not yell at me last night, for the first time ever.
Basically, I agreed with Bill on the two main points, that Live Aid was not the success we thought it was twenty years ago, and that when one is making a list of the celebrities in this world that are walking the walk, as well as talking the talk, Bono goes to the top of that list.
I think it made for pretty good TV, but unlike most segments on FOX News, it involved no screaming or finger-pointing.
We'll have video of Bill and me up on the site tomorrow.
2. The "shareholders' meeting" I keynoted in Santa Barbara last week was very interesting, informative, and refreshing. It was as advertised--a chance for the charity officials to share their vision for the next year and to account for how they spent their donations in the previous year. Donors had a chance to ask questions and to meet the people who do the real work on the ground, in the affected countries around the world. My speech on the state of philanthropy was well-received and I think the entire event went a long way toward promoting trust, accountability, and transparency for the donors and the charity. Well done.
