Today's Radical is Tomorrow's Sunday Insert
Three years ago, I wrote an editorial in which I argued that people concerned with improving the world would be better-served if they gave their money to charities than if they donated it to political candidates. For this, I was called (subscription required, unfortunately) "misguided", "undemocratic" and "absurd" by non-profit leaders and academics.
Imagine my surprise when I opened last week's issue of Parade, that edgy, incendiary, revolutionary publication found in our Sunday newspapers, and found that they are now making the exact same argument I did (second item), just three years later.
Parade and me, America-haters.

I've written on the same topic. Here's a recent post: http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2007/02/after-election-leadership-strategies.html
If just a fraction of what is spent on getting someone elected were provide as flexible, consistent operating dollars to charities working with inner city kids, or other social issues, we might reduce some of the problems these people trying to get elected are talking about.
