Gone Fishin'--For Real

This blog is going off the grid, at least temporarily. And yes, I know the term "going off the grid" has jumped the shark (as has, of course, the phrase "jumped the shark"). But in over six years of running Charity Navigator, I've never taken a vacation where I wasn't still plugged in. I always had my cell phone, my laptop, and some sort of internet access. I never had a chance to use "going off the grid" when it was still cool, so I'm using it now. Sue me.

But this time, I'm going where work can't find me, and more relevantly, I can't find work. The family and I are going to Flag Island, Minnesota, which I'm told is actually the northernmost point in the contiguous United States. To get there, we have to fly 5 hours to Canada, clear customs, drive an hour on a Canadian highway, cross the border back into the U.S., drive 40 miles on a dirt road, and then take a boat. Seriously. And when we get there, we'll have no cell phones, no internet, no TV, and no daily newspaper. These are the measures my wife has taken to get me to turn off the job.

Anyhow, that's why I will be off the grid until Friday, August 17. If you're looking for fresh outrage or even a bemused and sardonic view of the charitable world, I'll be back then, unless I fall in love with the unconnected and isolated lifestyle that lies ahead for the next 10 days.

That seems unlikely. See you in 10 days.

Hope you have a great vacation Trent, it must have taken quite a bit of will power to not take technology with you to keep plugged in! I doubt I could do that. lol

Enjoy Manitoba/Ontario and Lake of the Woods!

The Pickerel (or Walleye as you probably call it) tastes great. Hope the fishing was good.

Hey Trent,
It's about time...guess I'll be posting this just around the time you're wishing you had more vacation. Hope you enjoyed our fair country. The pace is just a little slower, I think.

Looking forward to when you get back. IF you do come back. ROFL.
